I promised myself that I would upload our wedding and honeymoon pictures to our photo gallery within the blog, but in reality that’s something my new husband has to take care of. I’m not quite as techy as Shay is. Until then, you can view some of our favorite wedding pictures and honeymoon pictures at the links below.
Everyone always talks about what a relief it is for the wedding to be over. People talk about returning to a normal schedule and taking care of normal, everyday tasks. I’m not sure what these people are talking about. Shay and I have been married for 2 months now and we’re still tying up loose ends from the wedding. First, it was a few weeks worth of writing Thank You cards, then it was dealing with changing my name, combining bank accounts, meeting with our insurance, etc. I’ll stop there, even though that isn’t the end of my list.
Truth is, I would much rather go back to planning the wedding. Our wedding was a huge responsibility and it took up all of my spare time, but I truly enjoyed every minute of it. I put a lot of time and energy into the décor at the reception hall. I cannot wait to post another blog about our “country chic” wedding and how do-it-yourself crafts can can save money!
We’ve heard of some guests having issues with booking rooms using the group code at the Holiday Inn in Willowbrook. Typically there are two ways to book a room: online and using the 1-800 number. Recently both methods are showing only double size beds available due to exceeding our original amount of rooms set in the room-block. There are still king size beds available, but do to a glitch in their computer system, these larger rooms are not showing up.
Please feel free to call my contact person at the hotel through her direct line. She will book your room for you and give you the size room you need including the group discount. When you call or email, don’t forget to mention the “Hackel-Howe Wedding on April 30th”, and don’t forget to book your room by April 8th to get the discount.
Her contact information is below. Feel free to contact Shay & I if you have any questions or issues. Sorry for any inconvenience. We love you all and we’re very excited to see everyone in 5 weeks!

My little sister in Chi Omega, one of my best friends, and a bridesmaid, surprised me this past Friday by flying in from Connecticut for my bridal shower! I had no idea until she walked into my living room after Shay picked her up from the airport. We had such a great weekend! Saturday night we went out for dinner and drinks in downtown Chicago. It was Ciara’s first time in the city. We were able to experience together what it’s like to have to shovel my car into and out of a parking space, we played taxi cab confessions, and we broke out “the robot” at a trendy bar in the loop (trying to make fools of ourselves, but we actually got complimented for our mad skills). At around 3AM on Sunday we looked at our watches and realized we needed to leave for the airport in 4 hours. So we took a quick nap, I dropped Ciara off at O’Hare, and we said “See you in April”.

We are 95 days away from the wedding. Time is really starting to fly. Which brings up the question, have you had a chance to put in your song requests yet? I am more than happy to listen to the Ghostbusters soundtrack all night, but I would imagine to guess I am alone there. So please help us set up the track list for our reception. Also, if you get your request in now you won’t have to worry about it come the night of the reception. To put in your request please head on over to the request a song section of the website and fire away. Thanks!
The last several weeks wrapped up 2010 and rolled into 2011 perfectly. Christmas Eve with the Fitzsimmons family was a blast, as always. This year Shay and I were able to spend Christmas Day with both my family AND his family. For the first time, we split the holidays and spent half of it in Illinois and the other half in Ohio. We went to Milwaukee for New Years Eve and rang in 2011 with Jerry, Dina, Luke and Brandi. The following weekend I had a “cousins night out” with Kristi, Colette, Patty and Meg. Meg had just turned 21 and Patty and Colette had just graduated from college! There was a lot to celebrate and we all had a great night out in Chicago.
2010 was good to me, but I have a feeling 2011 is going to be even better. This is just the beginning. Stay tuned…

Shay and I put up our Christmas tree and decorated the house with what little holiday décor we have. The tree is bare underneath because we have yet to start our shopping (and Santa hasn’t come yet). We’re looking forward to spending our first Christmas together and I’m very excited for Shay to experience his first Fitzsimmons Family Christmas Eve!

For those of you visiting our website because you received a Save the Date, welcome! We hope that you’ll enjoy reading about what we’ve been up to. This should be a good resource for wedding day information as well. Once you receive a formal wedding invitation, feel free to visit us again to RSVP online! We’re also working on a section for our guests to place song requests before the wedding reception. Check back often for updates, including our engagement pictures. Enjoy!
